Mary Ellen and Gary's wedding day defined them as a couple perfectly. Mary Ellen wanted to be sure that her close family bonds and southern upbringing were shown off along with Gary's roots in Russia. The rehearsal dinner was at Red Gate Farms. This was the evening where most of the Russian traditions were celebrated. The wedding party walked into the dinner under a tunnel of flowers, Mary Ellen and Gary smashed plates on the ground that they later cleaned up (the one with the broom is the one in charge and the dustpan is symbolic of being the obedient one) and they also performed a bread breaking (each takes opposite side of the bread and pulls - the person with the bigger piece is the "boss" of the family). Mary Ellen also wanted to share with her guests one of her favorite Russian treats - CCCP Ice cream!!!
It was a beautiful day in Savannah. Mary Ellen and her bridesmaids got ready at Brockington Hall which is a space that Mary Ellen has fond memories of from growing up. Her aunt currently owns and runs the property that is used as a wedding venue. Royal Hair and Make-up made sure that all the ladies were picture and wedding day perfect. The ladies were just gorgeous in their pale pink gowns. Mary Ellen's dress from Modern Trousseau was elegant and classic. Mary Ellen wanted to make sure that many of the classic Savannah locations were used as the backdrop of her wedding photos, such as Forsyth Park. The park provides a beautiful green space and it is also home to the iconic white fountain, where we definitely had to take a few photos.
The ceremony was at St. John the Baptist, a beautiful cathedral in downtown Savannah. It was here that Mary Ellen and Gary finally saw each other on their wedding day, surrounded by their family and friends. The ceremony was beautiful. The reception was held back at Brockington Hall where Design Studio South, EventHaus Rentals and Charles Duchscher created beautiful spaces in Brockington Hall. Thrive Catering made beautiful platters and delightful Hors d'oeuvres that had a southern theme to them, such as a biscuit bar. The Kat Williams band kept all the guests entertained and dancing all night long. This wedding was not only an event but one driven with love for Mary Ellen and Gary. Everyone was so happy to help in the preparation and execution of their wedding day. From family members to complete strangers, everyone was wishing them luck and love. It was a truly infectious thing to witness and I was so happy to be a part of their wedding day.
