I LOVE NEW YORK!
It probably has something to do with the fact that most of my family lives there and now my brother but I have always had a love affair with New York City. The hustle and bustle is something that you just can't mimic anywhere else... especially in Savannah. I went to the city this time with my friend Shannon who had never been before so we did some tourist-y things but also a bunch of things that I have actually never done before during my many trips to the city. Like... we crossed over the Brooklyn bridge! I kept seeing these gorgeous photos of the bridge so I really wanted to make this trip across the bridge a reality. Once we were in Brooklyn, we ate at Grimaldi's Pizzeria and it was excellent. Another first that we did was going to the Top of the Rock. I've been to the top of the empire state building and one of the twin towers when they were still standing but I had still never been to the top of 30 Rock. It was pretty awesome being ALL THE WAY AT THE TOP of that building and looking out at all of Manhattan. We were there at night, so I don't have any film images from that... Unfortunately. And it was SO WINDY that I was almost afraid that I would lose phone half the time I was taking photos, so taking out my camera wasn't going to happen with that happening either! haha. We also got to see Aladdin on broadway, eat lots of pizza, had an awesome breakfast sandwich on a NY Bagel, went to Magnolia's bakery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art,
St. Patrick's Cathedral, Grand Central Station, Macy's, The Natural History Museum, SMAC (Mac and Cheese EVERYTHING), Times Square, the world trade center memorial and museum, Ellis Island, M&M Store/Hershey/Sanrio/Toys R Us in Times Square, Central Park - Strawberry Fields, Alice in Wonderland and Belvedere Castle!
Check out some of my FILM images from the trip below!
The world trade center memorial was probably the place that I was most anxious about seeing. I wasn't quite sure what kind of exhibits they would have in the museum... There were a few that I just couldn't watch. 9/11 was such an insane day just for everyone. We all remember where we were when it happened, what we were doing... On that day, seeing something so terrifying happening on tv almost made me think that there's no way that this is really happening. I still have moments where I can't believe it. Mostly because my family was standing right between the two building just a few months before. My parents wanted to visit some friends in wtc 6, where they used to work.
It was a day that I thank all my guardian angels that watch over my family and my mother that day. I sympathize with everyone who lost a family member on that horrific day. I can't begin to understand the pain they must feel.
Shannon and I rode in a private car, a taxi, on a bus, a ferry, the subway, multiple trains and flew in an plane.
I think we definitely got our money's worth out of the trip.
All images were taken with fuji 400h 35mm film in my canon elan 7 with a 50mm lens
(I desperately need to get my hands on a 35mm. that would have brought these photos to another level!)
I can't wait to go back! I'm already planning my next trip! Not kidding!!
