Oh Natalie... I can't believe that you are now a senior in high school! I've known Natalie for many years. She and I grew up at the same summer camp but a couple years apart. When Natalie was younger, I was her counselor. It's weird to think about and it makes me feel so old knowing that Natalie will be in college soon! I don't think these are natural feelings for someone who is only 26 to have about a person who isn't their own child. haha. But, then again, the relationship that I have with many of the people that were in Natalie's group of friends is a strange one. We are pacers. Pacer is a summer camp, no, a life experience. Growing up and spending my summers surrounded by the awesome human beings that put on miss ugly pageants, lip synced to Backstreet Boys and put countless hours into making sure that every single kid is happy and entertained during their time within that space was something I will never forget. I went from being a camper to going through their leadership program and graduating into becoming a full fledged counselor. My first summer as a counselor is actually when Natalie and her crew joined the group I was put in charge of, group two. These kids taught me a lot about how to care for a child, to make sure they were safe but having fun at the same time. Eventually they had to leave group two and move on to the older group but I've always had an interesting connection with this specific group of people. Even now in 2015 when they are miles apart, when we all get together it's like things never changed. They are just as goofy as they were when they were 7 and it's awesome to see that they can just be completely themselves in front of one another. There's something to say about Pacer when it makes the best of you as the person shine. Pacer was always about being yourself and not letting anyone put you down because of it. It was freeing in a way and I think that's why so many of us are out going and probably the loudest of any group.
So I guess all of that just to say that I'm thankful for Pacer for bringing together such a unique and diverse group of people that became a big loving family. I'm happy to have these people in my life and these connections that will last forever. Pacer helped shape us into who we are and I can say that because I know it did that for me and seeing how the younger generation like Natalie, are growing up, it definitely has worked its magic on them.
Natalie, you've become such an awesome person with many, many talents. I'm proud of you and what you've achieved in your life thus far. I can't wait to see your future and what you do with your life. And know that whenever you feel overwhelmed, you have your personal family but also your Pacer family supporting you.
Good luck girl!!
