Kathleen and Buddy's engagement session was the first time I had ever been to Sea Island, and let me just say that I would totally LOVE to go back again and again. The grounds are gorgeous, the people who work on the Island seem to love their jobs and that light out there is so magical. Kathleen and Buddy were also pretty much the best couple you could ever ask for. They were game for anything and took directions so well that they were practically models by the end of our session.
Most couples I photograph have never had professional photos taken before. Most couples are super nervous and tell me "I'm so sorry for how awkward we will be" before I even get my camera out. I'm totally used to photographing people, especially when it's their first time taking photos with their significant other. So, if this is also you, just remember to breathe and also remember that I've got your back. I will help you through the poses and tell you where to put your hands / feet / hair / etc so you look good. I'd say like 95% of my couples have the posing down by the end of the session that I don't even have to tell them what to do anymore, I just shoot! It's amazing what a little confidence and direction can do for a couple. Plus, an engagement session is a great way to get used to the poses and how your photographer will direct you on wedding day. I try to educate all my couples that an engagement session is a GREAT INVESTMENT - not only for photos you will cherish for years to come but so you are ready and excited for your wedding day portraits. This is especially true if you know that your fiancé is not a lover of getting his or her photo taken!!
So, all this to say that I'm sooo happy that Kathleen & Buddy wanted an engagement session because not only did I get to spend time with them, but I also made a connection with them that will help us later on when I photograph their wedding celebration.
